To reach the Baansingel in Alkmaar:

From the south (highway A9)

When reaching Alkmaar, the highway splits up. Take care to sort out right of the highway in the direction 'Alkmaar-Den Helder'. Do NOT go straight through, this will lead you to the circular road, not to the inner town.

You will reach a roundabout, go straight through (second exit) in the direction Kooijmeer. You are on the Vondelstraat. After half a mile you will reach a smaller roundabout, go straight through (second exit) to continue the Vondelstraat.

After 800 meter first you encounter the Brederodestraat on the right with on the corner a flowershop. Slow down, then after 40 meters you go to the right into the street Baansingel just before the bridge over the canal Baansingel. On the corner is a tobacco shop.

My boat is about 150 meters from the corner. Drive on about 150 meters to find plenty free parking place.

From the North: You will enter Alkmaar crossing the Friesebrug. After the Friesebrug, go left (Wageweg). Follow the road. You come on the Bierkade, go straight through. You will pass the Accijns-tower on your left. After 200 meters or so pay attention, you will cross the Baansingel (the canal) and immediately after the bridge you have to go left, as my boat is in that canal Baansingel. My boat is about 150 meters from the corner. Drive on about 150 meters to find plenty free parking place.

THE NORTH ROUTE IS BLOCKED FROM JULY-OCTOBER 2006.
Avoid the Friesebrug, as the Bierkade and Wageweg are blocked.

Public transport:

From the railway station it is a 15 to 20 minutes walk to my boat.

The most simple route (not the shortest) is to go left when leaving the station. You walk in the direction of a big canal (Noordhollands Kanaal). When you cannot go further, go right. Walk through and through, keeping the canal on your left. Via the Kanaalkade you come at the Bierkade which goes over in Korte Vondelstraat. You will pass the Accijnstower on your left side. Walk straight through until you pass a bridge and cross the canal Baansingel. Go left into the street Baansingel. After 150 meters you will find my boat (Nr. 146) at your left.

The shortest and nicest route from the railway station is to go right when you exit the station. When the Stationsweg ends, go left (Scharlo). Walk straight on into the town, you will pass a bridge. After 150 meters you will see a big church. Best is to go to the right just before the church so that the church is on your left hand side. Follow the street, it makes a slight turn to the left. Just walking on you come in the Laat, a shopping street. Walk on. Laat becomes Limmerhoek, and when you cannot go further, go right into the Korte Vondelstraat. Walk straight through until you pass a bridge and cross the canal Baansingel. Go left into the street Baansingel. After 150 meters you will find my boat (Nr. 146) at your left.

From the railway station there is a bus that goes through the Vondelstraat. The direction is 'Overdie'. Ask the driver for the stop 'Brederodestraat'. Then walk back about 50 meters to find the Baansingel.
